the memories.

A little back story on the origin of this cover:

When Erik ko asked me to do a SF cover, i was excited. But it was issue #9 and quite frankly all the covers up until that point have been AMAZING by some of the industry's HOTTEST STARS in American comics and abroad. whats more, they each brought their own signature take on each Street Fighter Comic's Cover. From Joe Mad to Kaare andrews, to Skottie Young, Josh Middleton and a bevy of unique-styled talents. Moreso, those damned alternate covers by jo Chen were killing dudes.

I knew this and immediately knew how to seperate my cover from all of theirs by doing something i specialized in: Anime.

So what else to do but take the SF ALPHA: THE MOVIE anime style and make it into a cover, featuring DARK HADOU RYU, HULKING AKUMA and the mysterious GOUKEN. Even Erik Ko wasnt sure of it when i handed it in. " Its too Flat.." he said at first. " dont change the color treatment " i told him. ( with help from phenom talent Scott Iwahashi on the flat color treatment that noone knew about) credit to Arnold TSang for the minor touch up.


This turned out to be one of the most iconic covers of the first series, thankfully.


* FUN FACT* Legendary STREET FIGHTER comic illustrator ALVIN LEE one time admitted to me he adopted my inspired cover illustration's anime "SHADOW FEATHER" style (as my nod to' 'STREET FIGHTER ALPHA: THE MOVIE' to his own which led to his eventual thick, heavy shadow technique in his style during the series after seeing it finished. I was honored
